Antennas.
Antennas are important element for any radios. You can have the most expensive radio/transmitter with great input/output parameters, but if antenna is poor - you in trouble. Another things using dipole antenna in spectrum range, such NAV or COM aircraft band. On middle of whole range you can manage to have VSWR less 2:1 but on side it could be increase up to 4:1 and more. It is bad or not? Well, if antenna does not have less then 2:1 VSWR it could be damage output transistors or simply you will lose signal from remote stations.

So, there is practical test. Look carefully and think twice before make decision to move ether direction.

I using 259 SWR meeter.
It is great for NAV/COM band above and beyond

You can see, Left NAV antenna should not to be used it all.
Left COM it not so good, but will work...
